This week Soundguard Acoustics Ltd was contracted to provide an internal noise impact assessment for a development of five flats within an existing Grade II listed building in Ilfracombe, Devon. The Environmental Health Officer and the Local Planning Department had concern regarding the proximity of other commercial premises, including ventilation plant and amplified music from a nearby public house and restaurant. The monitoring took place over four evenings and included and assessment of the soundscape during the busier Friday and Saturday nights as well as Sunday and Monday evenings. BS8233:2014 was used as a methodology, this enabled a comparison of the measured values with the recommended internal ambient conditions to promote good living and sleeping conditions. The building was performing well and it was indicated that no signifciant adverse noise impact was to be expected. Soundguard Acoustics Ltd supplied the client with a full acoustics report and continues to advise during the remainder of the planning process.
