A newly-completed maths building at Pilton Community College has been nominated for a building control excellence award in recognition of its sustainable and innovative design.
The building, which opened last year, was designed by architects David Wilson Partnership Ltd. David Wilson said: “Achieving building control compliance is a statutory requirement for most of the building work we oversee, but it is nice to receive recognition that the practice has excelled in this area for the new building at Pilton Community College.”
Ben Stocks, head of maths, said the building had surpassed expectations. “The whole building has been designed to look as good as it can be,” he said. “The children are proud to be here and exceptionally proud of the building. They are really respectful of it. They are all bringing their friends in to see the building.”
David Wilson Architects Worked closely with North Devon Council building control manager Mike Tucker. Mr Tucker added: “The building demonstrates that good quality architecture and buildings can be procured locally through local consultants and contractors.” The awards ceremony will be held at a black-tie dinner in Plymouth on June 12.
